Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's death the family, it was looked after by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. As a young child, Ford battled anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused through word-related associations. Ford was first interested in acting at the age of teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she realized that this school wasn't suitable for her. Ford decided to apply instead to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut when she appeared in Surgical Spirit in an episode in 1990. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties in shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Her regular work in theatre has led to her joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate was soon recognized for her stand-up comedy, that were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
